Is a Road Trip For You?

Thinking of going on a road trip across the USA, but not sure if it's for you? Here's some insight into a cross country road trip from someone who has done it. This should help you decide if you a road trip will be the time of your life or just another trip. 1. Road trips are expensive. Hotels, gas, car maintenance, and food add up fast. Are you ready to spend this much money on a trip? 2. Eating on the road gets hard, especially when you're in the middle of the country. Fast food is sometimes the only option. How do you feel about that? Are you willing to make food ahead of time and keep it in a cooler sometimes, or spend a lot of money on dining out? 3. It's just you, your passengers, and the road. It can be a whole new experience spending long periods of time with someone. You'll do a lot of talking, listening to music, and photography. Are these things you're interested in? 4. How is your sense of adventure? A trip along the interestate isn't a vacation, it's torture. The best stuff lies off the exit ramps, so you'll need to have some sort of curiousity to see things you haven't seen before. 5. Are you a hotel person or camper? Camping is much less expensive, but requires much more preparation in advance. Hotels are more expensive, and in some ways easier. In my opinion, there's no better way to see the USA than on a road trip. However, I recommend reading up on areas of the country that interest you, so you can visit everywhere you want to see and plan out how much time you can spend at each place. It might turn out everything you want to see is on the opposite coast, which in that case, you might be best off flying out and renting a car (if you'd rather skip the middle of the country). |

Great to see you here, Bill (KIWI). I enjoyed your intel. We have travelled the interior of the USA often and I can vouch for your description. Canada has much of the same on the prairies only they grow crops there.
